My personal protocol for supporting the body and healing with herbs first. This is my short and sweet list of supports that I use each time I’m met with a healing. A much deeper breakdown may come in the future! Of course, consult your own trusted providers and remember that Christ is our true physician.
Oregano
Oil of Oregano or Oregano tincture are some of the most powerful herbs for fighting viruses. I use 2 droppers of Oregano tincture 2-3x per day in active sickness. Be sure to eat before taking oil of oregano and be mindful that this is a strong anti-microbial herb, so don’t overuse it.
Vitamin C, D and Andrographis
I take high doses of vitamin C (~4,000 mg 2x a day) to bowel tolerance (as much as you can take without disrupting your digestion) in active sickness and 2,000 mg when preventing. Getting outside is great for healing and supplementing in the darker months can be important. I take 1000 IU vit D. in the morning only.
Andrographis is a healing herb for acute sickness. I take 900 mg 2x per day while sick.
Echinacea
I take an Echinacea tincture, 2 droppers 2x a day in active sickness and 2 droppers 3x a week to prevent. Some echinacea comes with other supportive herbs like goldenseal, mullein, licorice root, cinnamon. These are great too!
Keeping the Body Warm
Warm Teas - Throat coat and herbal cold care are great. Bonus, add some apple cider vinegar (or fire cider!) for extra support.
Keep warm- Add extra layers to your clothes and always wear socks. lean into your fever (as much as possible). Hot showers, baths, space heaters and saunas are amazing.
Warming Foods -Eat warming, nourishing foods. Stay away from anything cold or frozen. Broths, warm milk and warming spices (cinnamon, clove, turmeric, ginger, cayenne, garlic) are great. I also add in more probiotic foods to support healthy microbes.
Sleep
Prioritizing sleep is SO crucial in healing. I take a sleep support tincture blend of catnip, passionflower and chamomile (I stay away from melatonin) and will sometimes take Asprin at night if it is unbearable. Resting during the night and doing some light movement during the day in-between rests will benefit you!
Hydration
Making sure your body is well supported also includes upping the normal things that your body needs on the day to day. When dealing with sickness I up my mineral intake when drinking water. I use mineral drops and steep a big batch of NORA (nettle, oatstraw, raspberry leaf and alfalfa) tea to drink throughout the day.
To support the mucosa I steep a mix of slippery elm, marshmallow root and licorice root in cold water and add that to my teas or water through the day.
